The challenge
Finding a place to rent in Bangladesh usually means scrolling social media groups, calling brokers and asking around. Listings rarely show the full cost. Deposits, advances and service charges come out later, and a flat advertised last month may already be taken.
Owners have the opposite problem: once a phone number is posted publicly, the calls never stop, even after the property is rented. Hostels and shared rooms add another layer, because availability is counted per bed rather than per property.
What I built
Structured listings for every kind of rental
Apartments, houses, single and shared rooms, hostels, sublets and commercial spaces each have the fields that matter to them. Hostels list room types with beds available and a price per bed. Sublets can be priced by day, week or month. Every listing shows rent, deposit, advance and service charges up front.
Search that answers the real question
Tenants filter by city or neighbourhood, property type, maximum monthly budget and move-in date. The date filter shows only places available on or before that day, so outdated listings don't waste anyone's time.
Moderation before anything goes live
Owners save drafts, add at least three photos and submit for review. Nothing is published until it has been checked, and featured placements are chosen from approved listings only. Demonstration content is clearly labelled as a sample listing so it can never be mistaken for a real property.
Private enquiries and viewings without the chaos
Tenants message owners privately, and an owner's phone number stays hidden unless they choose to share it. Tenants request a viewing time and the owner accepts or declines. Clashing appointments are blocked automatically.
An owner dashboard that keeps listings honest
Owners pause a listing, update free beds or mark a property as rented from one place, so what tenants see stays current.
How it’s built
Where it is now
Dhaka Resident is live, with search, moderated publishing, private messaging, viewing requests and the owner dashboard all running in production. It launched with clearly labelled sample listings so tenants and owners can see exactly how it works while real listings are onboarded.
The platform is built to grow beyond Dhaka: cities, neighbourhoods and property types are data, not hard-coded pages.
