The challenge
Aikyam supplies spices, Ayurvedic and superfood powders, and grains and pulses to importers, distributors, manufacturers and supplement brands. These buyers are often sourcing from a supplier they have never worked with, so before they get in touch they need reasons to trust the supplier, detailed product specifications and an easy way to ask for a quote.
They don't need a shopping cart. Off-the-shelf WooCommerce themes are built around retail prices, carts and payment, which gets in the way of the one action that matters for a bulk supplier: starting a conversation.
What I built
A quote-only WooCommerce catalogue
There are no prices and no cart. The cart and checkout pages redirect to the enquiry page, and every product has a Get a Quote button. Bulk prices depend on volume, grade and destination, so the catalogue leads to a conversation instead of a fixed price.
One accessible quote popup, everywhere
A single modal is reused across the site and pre-fills the product it was opened from. It submits in the background with an inline confirmation and falls back to a normal form post without JavaScript. It works with a keyboard and screen readers: focus stays inside the dialog, Escape closes it and focus returns to the button that opened it.
An enquiry system with no plugins
The popup and the full 12-field enquiry form share one validation path. Every enquiry is stored in the WordPress admin, tagged as a quote or an enquiry, and emailed with Reply-To set to the buyer. Spam is stopped by a nonce, a honeypot field and a submit-timing trap.
Product pages led by specifications
WooCommerce attributes render as Key Specifications tables covering values such as ASTA colour, curcumin, moisture, aflatoxin and shelf life. A custom product-data tab holds each product's tagline, quality badge, origin and SEO keywords.
A one-click, repeatable setup
A setup wizard creates 14 pages with their templates, 11 products, 3 categories, 10 articles and 4 menus, and configures WordPress and WooCommerce settings. Running it again never overwrites the client's edits.
Buyer education and structured data
Ten articles of 540 to 740 words cover EU pesticide limits, export documents, FOB, CFR and CIF trade terms, and spotting adulterated saffron. Rank Math and custom schema filters add Product schema to product pages and FAQPage schema to a 16-question FAQ.
How it’s built
Where it is now
Aikyam is live, with the quote-only catalogue, the quote popup, the enquiry system, specification-led product pages, buyer-education articles and structured data all running in production.
The site is built to keep working: if WooCommerce is ever deactivated, the catalogue falls back to built-in data rather than showing an empty shop, and a migration converted the site's earlier custom post type into WooCommerce products.
